Seth Kearsley
Executive Producer/Director/Writer/Creator
With over three decades of experience in animation, it’s not uncommon now for me to hear, “You directed my childhood!” I’ve worked on a wide variety of shows and styles because, early on, I felt that over-specializing could breed weakness. I’ve worked an even amount in adult animation, feature animation, and kids’ animation. I’ve never wanted to specialize in just one thing.
I’ve done a lot of comedy, so people usually associate me with it — but both my animation and directing careers actually started with action shows. There are things I love about both. I’d say my strongest suits are acting, action, and staging.
At this point in my career, I find myself doing a lot of mentoring — both with younger artists on the crew and those who approach me for advice. I’m also working on my own projects, hoping for my Miyazaki moment where I get to spend the rest of my career creating my own worlds. I don’t ever really plan on retiring from animation or art.
I’m excited to see what the next chapter brings. Miyazaki did some of his best work from my age on. Frank Lloyd Wright built the Guggenheim in his eighties. I’m a young pup compared to those titans. I’m still learning every day and working to improve my skills and my craft.
